1794
Paris

A major treatise by a master figure of the French scene, who will be the first teacher of the newly founded Conservatoire (from 1795). Although Devienne took a conservative approach by dedicating his treatise to the single-key flute (he mentions the small additional ‘English-style’ keys that were beginning to appear in Paris, but does not adopt them), the work was revised many times and adapted to different types of flutes, including the Boehm system, and is still in use today!
